This week begins the season of Lent. On Ash Wednesday, February 22nd, we remember our frailty, our mortality, and the curse that binds us to bodies that will not last.
On Wednesday morning you can drop in at the church to receive the imposition of ashes on your forehead. The sanctuary will be open from 6:30-8:30am for reflection, with a short liturgical prayer and imposition of ashes occurring every 15 minutes (last imposition at 8:00am). Not only does this ancient practice remind us that from dust we come and to dust we return, but it also reminds us of the beautiful hope we have that comes at the end of Lent on Resurrection Sunday.
Moreover, the ashes provide a unique opportunity to show the world that you are a follower of Jesus. Wearing ashes on your forehead may earn you a few strange looks as you go about your day, but simply think about how often we get to use our faces as an announcement of the fact that we follow a risen Christ. Will you join us?
